Preparations

Henkel Square is this weekend and I am at home today cooking up what I can before the event. I don't want to spend the whole weekend over a fire, so I'm planning on prepared stuff and no cook stuff.

With the event location and my impression I thought good German fare was required. German potato salad, brats in beer, cabbage, applesauce (homemade), leek and fennel salads. We will be eating well I think.

Progress

I know my posts have been dreadfully lacking in photos lately; I apologize for that. After Henkel Square and the 1860s conference there will be pictures galore! So what have I been doing. Well the blue wool is refitted, a new chemisette is done, of course the conference dress, a pair of stockings and I want at least one more. I know I said I was pushing the ball gown aside, but I can't...after reading on ESC's forum about all the wonderful dresses being made, I want mine. So, more midnight oil, sewing at Henkel and I will have it done even if I have to be sewing it on the train. Or Nancy has to sew me into it. It's my turn after sewing her into so many of her dresses :).

I must have the most understanding husband in the world. As I come home from work and pick up my sewing he goes to make dinner and cleans up after. On the weekends as I'm sitting watching chick flicks sewing, he is doing the laundry and picking up the house. I may complain about him sometimes, but he really deserves major kudos for these passed few weeks!

all works

I tried on my conference dress one last time now that it is complete. I fits wonderfully...other than the slight bunching at the chest due to a last minute dart in the neckline. And I need to fiddle with the collar a bit. But it fits!! And looks good! I'm so happy.

While I had the corset and such on I decided to evaluate some of my other dresses. After the dress fiasco at Lost Tribes I thought I better do some checking. The blue wool does not fit in the bust but I think I can let it out. Old blue and the green Atlanta History dress fit great still (I don't know why) I just need a new chemisette which I'm working on now.

So my presentation for Harrisburg is done, the powerpoint uploaded and I'm ready to go. I now need to figure out how to get the hoop in the luggage! And decided do I want to take the train from Philly or rent a car. I might wait a bit and see what the weather will do. I'm from Texas, white stuff from the sky just confuses me :).

Project priorities

The conference dress is almost done! Hopefully by the end of the week. But I have a dilemma. There are a few things I would like to have done for Henkel Square but I don't have time now for that and to finish the ball gown. So I have decided that the ball gown will not go the Harrisburg. I'm disappointed but in the long run it's probably for the best anyway. After working with the conference dress, I'm thinking the ball gown probably would need a few adjustments to really fit well plus the extra room it will take up in my luggage, whine, whine, whine...trying to justify this aren't I?

So, after the conference dress is done, I will start a chemisette for Henkel Square, hopefully a night gown and then some stockings. After March I'm taking a break for a bit from sewing :).
