Crossing state lines

The car is packed and I'm as ready as I'll ever be for the trip. Leaving early tomorrow for Plano to pick up Kimberly and then on up to Missouri. The weather looks like it will be nice and cool, maybe too cool at night. Taking my feather bed and nice heavy warm quilts and blankets; should be fine. I have a journal with me and "plan" to write my thoughts as the event goes along, but we'll see how well that works. I will post an AAR upon my return.

All sewn up

All my sewing is now done! Over the weekend I finished a chemise, a pair of stockings, a pair of garters and a petticoat (yes, all by hand), got everything starched and ironed. Whew! Now I have three evenings to get everything sorted out and packed up.

Oh, my fingers hurt

The plaid has been dismantled and reconstructed. All by hand again. Last night I went to get all my whites together and I'm missing a petticoat and chemise!! AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! A week before I leave for the event!! Thank god for the bolt of pima cotton I purchased a while back in Houston. So I cut off some of that and pre-washed and will now start sewing those. The petticoat is no sweat. I have plenty of time, I think, to get all this done but I had wanted some down time to plan what to take, starch, iron, pack, etc. Now it looks like it will be down to the wire. Yeehaw!

Compromises

Two weeks before I leave for Missouri and I now have to decide what I must have done as I am not going to have it all. The plaid redo is in the works, should be done this weekend (real life got in the way with a work trip). I need to take stock this weekend and really see what I have and what I can go without. The last weekend I'll be ironing, starching and packing stuff. I'm so excited about this event!

Continuing the sewing

I'm really getting excited about Lost Tribes, but it is causing some serious sewing issues. After I finished the drawers, I took a couple of days off from the needle. But now I must dive back into it. I have taken the bodice off the plaid that is in my profile picture and will make a new one using the wool pattern. It shouldn't take too long since everything else is made up; it's just the bodice that needs to be done with the new adjustments with the new corset. Once that is done, if I have time, chemise, then stockings. I may be resorting to the machine here pretty soon to get all this done.

Newest acquisition

I won a really cool CDV on Ebay. A little past the time I'm usually interested in but it's from Houston! Here is a link to information about the photographer. The seller dated it to 1866 and described it as a "Mullen sister".

Adjustments

After consultation with Pam Robles I have shortened the skirt on the bonnet. It does look a lot better now. All that's left is the stuff inside the brim. I don't have any flowers I like for this bonnet so I will have to go hunting. Photos to come when it's done.
