The site that we have been using for a semi-immersion Civil War event has been sold. It is unclear weather or not the new owners will continue to allow us access to the site or even what their plans are for the site. To say I'm bummed is a serious understatement. The site was wonderful and really fit the needs of the event. On the look out for a new site, have some possibilities. I'm still in mourning I think over Henkel Square as nothing seems "good enough."
Anyway, going to visit the west coast mouse next week. Will hit the search upon return, also see if I can meet with the new owners.
My thoughts, experiences and activities regarding Civil War era civilian living history.

Governor's Inauguration
Today I participated with a couple of my colleagues from the Texas Historical Commission helping the Buffalo Soldier Program of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The Buffalo Soldier Program was invited to provide entertainment for the Governor's Inauguration BBQ on the grounds of the capitol. They are a great group and very knowledgeable about their subject.

New era
At least temporarily. I plan to participate in an event commemorating the 175th of the Texas Revolution. I'm working on getting some things together. Not sure I will continue in this time period so not going all out with a new dress on this one. Just a few period accessories to change up a homespun. I was in a major sewing drought and now have three things I'm working on all at once. What fun.
This dip will be a nice change; I'm starting to burn out on Civil War. I think mainly since there are so few authentic living history events here in Texas. Plenty of battle and ball stuff, but I'm really not interested in those any more. So this Tex Rev will shake things up a bit.

A set back
It seems that the store I purchased some ballgown ribbon from is now kaput. I found this out after several unanswered emails and phone calls. A friend in Maryland drove by the place and it appears to be closed. So on the hunt again.

Short ball gown break
I'm taking a short ball gown break as I have been asked to participate in the Texas Governor's BBQ in two weeks and need to remake a dress into late 60's. I'm redoing the blue wool's skirt for a flatter front; that should work.
