1860s meets 2011
I'm thinking of broadcasting an internet radio station and play music from the 1860s. I thought this might be a way to further educate about the time period and share the music of the time with others. I'm thinking of calling it Top 40 of the 1860s; too corny? Some of my music is in tape format so I need to get it converted. I'll keep you updated on how things go.

That would be so freaking awesome! Any chance of someone recording stuff from the Godey/Peterson's & getting that on the air?

Sounds like a neat idea!
I hadn't thought of recording Godey's music pieces. That would be so cool. Now to think on how to do it.

Top 40 of the 1860s may be too racy for some people.....don't forget how popular minstrel music was.
I think this is a fine idea Annette. I collect music of the period as well as pre-CW - don't forget, a songs popularity lasted much longer back then - and have amassed quite a large collection.
I don't know if "Top 40 of the 1860's" would work. How about something like "The Musical Sounds of the 19th Century"?
Also, you might want to consider, in addition to the music, sound bites from movies, information minutes, a This Day In History bit...just to add some color.
Anyhow, that's my two cents...I wish I could help you out more. I can give you a list of CD's that I have in the case you may want to purchase some for yourself.
